How to use it
How to make a QR code for your open house
Four minutes, start to finish, and nothing to install. The code is built in your browser as you type.
1Decide what the code should open
Whatever you want a visitor holding a phone to land on: your sign-in form, the listing page, a video walkthrough, a page with the disclosures on it. One code, one destination. If you want two things, make two codes.
2Paste the link
Type or paste the web address into the box. A bare domain is fine, we add the https:// part for you. The code appears as soon as the link is valid, and it changes as you edit.
3Write the words for the sign, if you want a sign
The headline, the property address, and the line under the code are optional and only appear on the printable page. The PNG and SVG downloads are the bare code with nothing around it, so they drop straight into a flyer or a rider you already have.
4Download the PNG, download the SVG, or print the sign
PNG for anything on a screen or a normal letter-size flyer. SVG for anything printed large, because it stays sharp at any size. The print button opens your browser print dialog, where Save as PDF is one of the destinations.
5Scan it with your own phone before Saturday
Open the camera app, point it at the printed sheet from about where a visitor will stand, and confirm it opens the right page. Test the printed copy, not the screen: toner, glare, and a fold across the middle are the three things that break a code that worked fine on a monitor.
A printed QR code can send a visitor to a page, but it cannot tell you who scanned it; Open House Console puts a sign-in form on the other side of the scan and files every visitor in your dashboard as a named lead.
FAQ
Common questions
Does this QR code expire?+
No. The link you type is encoded straight into the pattern, with no redirect service in the middle, so there is nothing on our side that can be switched off or start charging later. The code works for as long as the page it points to works. That also means the destination is fixed once it is printed: if the link changes, you make a new code.
PNG or SVG, and does it matter?+
PNG is a picture at a fixed size, which is all you need for a social post or a letter-size flyer. SVG is vector, so it stays perfectly sharp whether it is printed two inches across or two feet across. If it is going on a yard sign, a rider, a poster, or anything a print shop handles, send them the SVG. Most free QR sites only hand you a PNG.
How big should I print it?+
The working rule is about one tenth of the distance you want it read from. Roughly two inches for a code on a flyer someone is holding, four to six inches for one on the entry table, and a foot or more for a sign read from the sidewalk. Leave the white border around the code alone. That margin is part of the code, and cropping it in tight is the most common reason a printed QR will not scan.
Can I see who scanned it?+
No, and no QR code can. A QR code is a printed link. It opens a page and that is the end of what it knows. Anything you learn about the person holding the phone has to come from the page on the other side of the scan, which is why the code usually points at a sign-in form rather than straight at the listing.
Do visitors need an app to scan it?+
No. The built-in camera app on both iPhone and Android reads QR codes. Point the camera at it and a link banner appears. It is worth saying that out loud on the sign, because the visitors most likely to hesitate are the ones you most want to capture.
Do you keep the link I typed?+
No. The code is generated in your browser by JavaScript on this page. The link never leaves your device, there is no account, and there is nothing to unsubscribe from later.
Where should the code point for an open house?+
A sign-in page beats a listing page almost every time. Someone standing in the entryway with their phone already out is as close to a captured lead as open house day gets, and sending them to photos of the house they are currently standing in wastes that moment. Send them somewhere that asks who they are.
